Ashish medical relief society is organizing life skills class for special need children with intellectual disability.We work mainly in the key areas of Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder.
We have designed a comprehensive 12 week program where we train these children in 12 weekend sessions about simple day to day activities in small steps.
Idea is to train the child as per his age and abilities to achieve one single goal of living independent living.We believe every child is special and every special need child has ability to feel,live and enjoy a normal life like other children.Instead to pity them we should work to give them ability to fight the dis-ability and make the - ability.In 12 sessions we have covered almost everything a person need to cope up with his daily needs.
We have kept tasks simple and child friendly.In the play way we try to engage them in the activity and make them come out of their inhibitions.Method is Indoor as well outdoor activities.
Mode is fine arts,visuals,self videos,plays and real time situations.We do these activities in small groups with children of same age group,Same disability and similar level of capabilities.
Many kids may not grasp all 100% in one go .So Mother is shared the plan and repeated sessions at home including including individual and group sessions onsite are planned.Assesment prior and end of training program gives a feedback on the level of achievement.Whatever achievement comes child and parent are continue these sessions later on too.Mother is trained with the upcoming levels that she will be updating and sharing with the child.Sucess of any life skill program is purely based on individual customized plan prepared for each child with same curriculum.
Each group has 4-6 members with Mother and a common trainer for each child who discuss and plan activies for them.Then individual and group sessions are planned for each one.In each program we train volunteer mothers of special children as trainer and certify them to conduct more such trainings once they are completely trained to handle these kids and such sessions.
